Quilts By Rosaland
About Me

I've be making quilts since 1995. I've been sewing since I can remember. My first 4 quilts were photo quilts that I made for mother's day for my mom and my aunts. I bought a quilt book and figured it out.

Now I'm hooked! I've taken many quilt classes and still take classes when I see a technique or something new so I can keep up with what's current in the quilt world. Some things you just can't get from books. Not to mention the great people you meet in the process.

I've begun teaching quilt classes and craft classes as part of my business adventures. Email me with questions about either at info@quiltsbyrosaland.bizland.com

Woman Owned Business

I design and make my own quilts. My products include items not found on the site yet. They include baby quilts, lap quilts/throws, Christmas tree skirts, bed quilts (twin and queen), placemats, table runners, some african themed wall-hangings, black history quilts and Kwanzaa quilts. Those will be coming to the site soon.

Occasionally I find a design I like by another person and will write to them for permission to use their pattern to create quilts and sell them. So when you see 'design used with permission . . .' you'll know it is someone else's design.

What's in a Quilt?

I design and quilt all of the personalized quilts offered.

For people new to quilts and quilting - a quilt is 3 layers: a top layer which usually has a pieced design, a middle layer of batting (either cotton, wool, polyester, or silk), and the third layer is the backing. The 'quilting' is the stitching that holds all 3 layers together and is done in some design that enhances the design on the quilt top.

All of my quilts are created using 100% cotton fabric and I use cotton batting as well. This is simply a personal preference. Quilts can be made of many different types of fabrics.

Photo Transfers - The Process

I use photo transfer paper by Transfer Magic. I've been using their paper since I began selling these quilts and I always get great results with it.

Photos are unharmed because I simply make a copy of whatever photo you send, then transfer it to 100% cotton fabric.

Even if your photo is very small (or very large) - it can be enlarged (or reduced) in the copy phase to fit into whatever design is being used.

The transfer process I use - allows the fabric to be washed and dried - many of the ink jet transfer papers require dry cleaning only - I don't use those.

So your photo quilt can be washed and dried and even ironed as long as you put a plain piece of cotton over the photo when you iron it and remove the fabric right away - this technique also removes the lines that sometimes show up from folding your quilt for packing and shipping.
